How often do you think you trick yourself without realizing it?
Most people believe they hardly ever do – but the truth is that we all do it, all the time. There are many reasons for this and many ways to do it, but availability bias is one of the most common ones.
Unfortunately, we also live in a world where our availability bias is often and easily influenced. Most of us are bombarded with information throughout our day. And the way our sources (such as our social media) is set up might not do us any favors.
In this short video, I explain what availability bias is, and give you some advice on how you can overcome it.
If you want to be right more often, to make smart choices, to not trick yourself – you should watch it.
Once you understand this concept, you can also help other people overcome their availability bias. All you need to do is encourage them to think about things a little more deeply. Ask them what more, or what else, they know about a topic. Ask them for more sources, or other opinions.
If we control for availability bias both in ourselves and the people around us, the quality of knowledge in our life will improve.
